'New' GTV

Hi All, this is my first post on the forum having picked up my 2004 GTV JTS last Monday I was, of course, warned off buying an Alfa by the armchair experts because they are rust buckets (since when? The 1970's?) and the electrics don't work on them. Well, there is no rust but I was embarrassed to admit that the engine management light lit up on day two of ownership There was also a smell of oil burning off the exhaust when the engine was hot.

Anyway, I stuck a code reader on it and after resetting several times it was clear that there was only one fault code being generated - P1131. Suspecting N/S oxy sensor 1 I fiddled with and cleaned the connections (including the ones at the back of the block that I read about) but the light kept coming on. When the engine cover was off I noticed that the cam cover gasket was weeping from the front offside.

I got a new sensor and gasket today and have just fitted both. The light has stayed out on the test drive so fingers crossed. I am also hopeful that the oil dribble has been stemmed.

The only other thing to look at now is the very loose drivers side mirror.

What a great car to drive - really pleased with it and looking forward to clocking some miles up.
