6 years of GTV ownership

On Sunday I clocked up 6 years of GTV ownership, a 1998 Ph1 TS Lusso.

In this time we have covered 45,774 miles and she is now on 106,002. She was laid up from November 2009 until June 2011, details to follow, so that did slow the miles down but I am currently putting on ~300 miles a week.

She was bought to replace a Fiat Coupe 20v NA that I wrote-off after only 2 weeks. So with the insurance payout burning a hole in my pocket I travelled 122 miles to view and hopefully buy.
I did my best to be objective but after the test drive I was buying it. After some light negotiation I had the keys and was on the phone to confirm insurance.

I have spent in the region of 6.5k in servicing/mot costs, a selection below
2 * cambelt/variator/water pump changes
7 tyres
front, centre and rear exhausts sections (standard)
Clutch slave cylinder

The handbrake is always a problem come MOT time, I am sure it only ever works effectively for 15 minutes a year.

I have had many great drives over the time, including the drive home after collection over the Lecht (A939) but also great sections of the Scottish west coast (Fort William>Mallaig (A830) and A82) along with much more mundane dual carriageway and motorway miles.

In October 2009 tried to pass-thru a flooded road but stalled midway. I was silly and tried to restart the engine. This thread http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/engin...s-rebuild.html tells the story but in a nutshell I twisted a conrod but the engine had to come apart to discover that. So it was laid up in my dads garage so I could go about it, unfortunately I got fed up borrowing the wifes Hyundai Coupe and bought my 147 GTA. Now this seriously took my eye off the rebuild and extended things until my dad declared he wanted his garage back to bring a Morris Minor back to life.

So the GTA is now my fun car whilst the GTV has the role getting me to work and home again, but she still gets out for the odd blast.
I toy with the idea of getting a smoker (GT or Brera) for the commute but as I get 35-36 mpg I don't really see the need.

So here is to at least another year.

a few pictures; car it replaced, engine issue, the old girl.

Well done that man.

7 years of GTV ownership for me and I have taken it from 43k miles to 164k miles. I blew the head gasket (ignored failing radiator) at 160K but apart from that major expense regular servicing has seen it do OK.

Despite buying a V6 Spider I still love to drive it.

I've had the GTV for six years as well, used it as daily driver for three years and added 91k km in total (135->226k km). Financially and emotionally it will be hard to sell it any time soon, so I guess I will keep this car untill it disintegrates...

Now the MiTo is for commuting, the Spider (added last month) for the nice sunny drives, but the GTV still gets her share. Just finished a 3000+ km trip to France and had a blast in the mountains with the old GTV!

I have owned for 11 years. Bought it with 47K on the clock and now it has c140K. Last 2 years has been neglected. One of my best and favorite cars to drive. My worst experience was having the cam belt snapping whilst driving it in '02, this was just after the main service from Alfa and they didn't advise to change the belt. I think the belt was due to be changed at 67K i was on maybe 60K. Any how after a lot of dispute Alfa UK, agreed to subsidies 50% of the cost. Had the car back from them on always took a Alfa Independent specialist.

drove a Mito from the south of France to Italy last year, wow. Great drive.
