Not sure what I was on that morning but something possessed me to do what you should
never do. Buy a car on a whim without (much) prior knowledge of the car model and without viewing.. So with some trepidation I went today to collect my cheap 80k miles 800 quid spider..
Well I guess you could call it a mixed bag. With the car came a hatful of receipts showing a new clutch and I think two cam belt changes the last only 15 k miles ago BUT in 2005 !! Also
new rear subframe and swing arms at 50k ish miles and various other costly dealer repairs
From what I can gather it had a hardish start to life as a company car with 50k in three years. A guy then bought it for 13k (!) in 2001 and poured 1000s into it over the next 4 years.
The second part of it's life has been uneventful with some years seeing only 500 miles on it.
'Mixed bag' , well the guy did mention a few flaws like ripped seat and some 'light scratches'
on the bonnet (cough
), small hole in roof, but failed to mention the rest of the scrapes and gouges and the doors peppered with car park dings ( about 8 each side) and a mightily bodged drivers door mirror.
The centre console is suffering with what I hear is a normal residue, but it does have a snazzy radio (Parrot something or other) and a Cobra alarm and a 100 quid Calcium battery ..
I took a decent look under the bonnet after a 75 mile drive home (all a bit corroded) and noticed the airbox bracket/clamp had come apart (bolt missing) and was rubbing on the coolant header tank hose, I can feel a large groove in this now so it's been like it a while and a miracle it didn't fail..
So currently in the market for replacement seat or cover, tools (Cam lock etc..)to replace cam belt and variators, door mirror and touch up paint (can't yet find code for that though - a kind of blue/black metallic..)
No doubt I will from now on be a more frequent visitor !
