Alfa GTV V6 Overheating/Hot Running Issues (Solved)
Taken from another thread I will copy my original problem..
Ok so the temperature gauge marks are 50, 80 (just a mark), 90, 100 (just a mark), 130 as I understand it.
My Phase 2 V6 6 Speed currently sits between 90 and 93 (ish) in traffic. The fan seems to cut in about 93 and then takes the car down to 90, where the fan turns off.
However, on the run, the car is always between 90 and 95. On a drive today from Yorkshire to London, the car was sitting at about 92c at 80mph. You would think that once moving above 40/50 etc that the car would sit below 90, but it sits above it typically.
During some hard acceleration, the car goes upto 97 ish, so I back off thinking this is too high?
Why would the car show a higher temperature on a cruise, than sitting in traffic?
The car appears not to be losing and coolant.
Any thoughts? Anyone else have this behaviour? All other posts seem to mention lower temperatures at speed (makes sense)
Since then the car was undriveable above 70/80 as the temperature gauge was going up to 100c and the engine temperature light was coming on.
The garage firstly replaced the thermostat; no change. Then a new radiator; no change again. Finally the car has had a new water pump; Success! As many have mentioned here, the waterpump (probably the factory original) had a PLASTIC IMPELLER. This had cracked (see picture).
So for all those people who have normal running around town but hot running/overheating at speed, focus your attention on the water pump.
