Hi Alfa owners
Problem: My fan never goes into the 1. speed, but does kick in full speed when temp gauge hits the mark around 100-110 degrees.
Is this a real problem? probably not, and I did read in other threads that authorized alfa mechanics ( for what that is worth!) say that it is no problem, but honestly it nags me a little, and I find myself always watching the temp gauge and worry - maybe too much.
Anyway: wanted to check it out, and went through quite a few threads here on the forum.
(It is an early phase1 2.0 V6 Turbo and has a two fan assambly.)
First suspicious parts - the resistors: the look brand new, and measure fine.
Secondly I checked the fusebox - hmmm the 3A fuse is missing, and after buying a fuse and trying to mount it I discovered that the matalparts in the fuseholder are completely not there!!!
Now being quite handy with electronics I wanted to try to remount the fuseholder or connect a new external one. Please see the attached images!
...so first of all
eeek what a lousy state the PCB is in, especially that track that has lifted itself from the board. Definitely something that calls for a full replacement, but it is actually working now.
But secondly: From the track it seems that the fuseholder for the 3A fuse was never meant to be there in the first place (both ends would connect to the same track)...or how do you see it? [edit: I noticed now that it must be a doublelayer PCB, but still the fuseholder ssems to have never been there]
a) Could it be possible that this GTV was never mant to have a 1.speed engine fan?
b) Could the fusebox be from another car (version or type)?
c) Besides the lousy state of the PCB should I not worry about the 1.speed missing, and leaving the fan only to kick in at 100-110 degrees mark?
