Simon, if you open up the innards then you have no choice! but don't worry as its easily enough wound back in, i think the majority of the problems are to do with the shaft? When you have it opened up and the plastic string free and the inside bottom black cover popped off grab the silver housing that the aerial retracts into and twist it side to side and pull it up .... it will come free without breaking but there will be loads of white residue of some sorts which i think is dried white grease?
Then ifyou have a container get a can of liquid +GAS or such like and leave the aerial section soaking over night, come at it the following day and see how much you can free and once you have the section free polish and grease them and if you free all sections be sure to grease it every 6 months. If seadart doesn't get back then you are next on list, however he may not need what you need so let me know?
