I have the 1999 version.
This is elctro hydraulic (as is yours I suspect).
Hydraulic pistons (6 in total) work the cover, rear window and rest of the hood. It tales a pair per section.
A hydraulic pump pressurises the fluid in the system and solenoids open and close valves to each of the pistons forcing them up or down. Each is opened in turn accoring to a preset sequence for opening or closing.
Each opertion on a piston has a certain time in which it must complete. If it takes longer then something is wrong (head trapped in mechanism! Broken ram, or leak perhaps). That's a fault condition and the roof stops and the lights blink etc.
There's a lot more but how's that for starters.
My hood is broke. I am fed up with useless dealers who haven't a clue and intent to resole the many issues that seem to arise with these things myself. I'll post later on this matter. Keep your eyes peeled!!
