Help Brake fluid leak

Has anybody removed or replaced the brake compensator?
I replaced the rear pads this morning and after I'd pressed the brake pedal a few times and adjusted the handbrake I noticed oil dripping from above the compensator.
Cannot see whether a pipe has been damaged or where exactly the leak is coming from.
Will I lose all the oil from the system? If so, is the bleeding of the brake system from scratch problematic?
Would be glad of any advice. - Its a '98 model btw
