Spider Arrival

Hello all,

I will be picking up my 1997 Alfa Spider next week and would like to ask
what should I do as a first service for the Canadian summer.

It will have been traveling for two months so other than being driven on and off
ships and trucks, not much running time.

I'm thinking of replacing all fluids, Plugs, Battery if need be, is there anything else I should
be looking at?

It has roughly 58,000 original klms.

also I've heard about the 'Immobilizer' what is it exactly and where is it located?

any info/advice anyone would care to share would be greatly appreciated,

thanks very much

Hi Chris,

Nice to see some Spiders making it over to Canada!

Is the car European spec? If so, it will make it different to the UK cars in terms of alarms and immobilisers - also im guessing the car is a Phase 1 model (MY 96-98?) - this also makes a difference......

Battery connections, earths and the battery itself are all very important on these cars - if any are slightly 'off' they can play havoc with the electrics. Id definitely buy a new battery just to remove any doubt.

Is the car a V6 or I4 (twinny as we call it). If its the I4 it needs special sparkplugs, and they cost a fair bit. Belts are also very important on the twinny, less so on the V6. Unless you have documented proof of a recent change id be putting them high on my to do list.

Other than that treat it as any other car id say - dont run it low on oil, may be prime the cylinders with oil if its being sat a very long time, a decent new battery, check tyre condition and hopefully off you go.

Take some pics!

etc etc etc!
