I had a buyer lined up for my Spider, I had taken a deposit, closed off the ebay auction and even put £40 of fuel in the car this weekend (buyer to pay on collection).
Buyer: "sorry mate, the paintwork is not right, look, compare it to the (much newer) Audi next to it. I'm fussy because my family own a garage. I will offer you £2000 for the car."
Me: "No deal."
B: "I want my deposit back too"
I am paraphrasing, but you get the gist.
I hate it when somebody 'in the business' (does not have to be car trade), tries to use their
specialist knowledge to backtrack or welch on a 'gentleman's agreement'.
Don't get me wrong, as part of a negotiation process, that's fine - but to do it AFTER a deal has been struck, that does not sit well with me.
Please could somebody check out my car in the classifieds
and give me some feedback. I think the price is right (as I am expecting to haggle), the car is a good example, not perfect - but good.
I will be heading up to the Ace Cafe on the 12th April for Italian car night, if anyone is going?
