List of engines for a 1996 GTV.
Hi again guys,
I'm gonna do something that i'm sure a lot of you will frown upon. Im removing and shelving the 2.0 turbo V6 from the GTV. If any of you have been checking out my other threads, you will see that I was removing the engine to rebuild it and bring it back to its former glory. Unfortunately that's not an option at the moment.
As has happened all over Europe, and indeed the US, we are in a state of economic crisis over here (Spain) and I live on one the canary islands. For work reasons I have to move to a different island within the next few months in order to keep food on the table and tools in my toolbox! This results in not having any time or not much cash to spare in bringing the 2.0 turbo back to life. It sucks, but it's a necessary evil.
I'm not going to chuck the 2.0 engine, I will eventually get it shipped over to the other Island and work on it bit by bit, but at the moment I have a lovely red car, with no engine.
I was hoping that you guys might be able to give me a list of all engines, (the newer, most economical the better) that would fit directly into the GTV. Also, I have read that the ECU doesn't need to be swapped? Is that right? Can I use the 2.0 ECU with say a 1.6 T-spark? I would be looking for something that could be dropped in with no major modifications. Dont want to have to go cutting up the engine bay or making "custom" mounts or anything like that.
I could pick up any number of used, whole, working engines for about 300-400 euros, and fit it in within the next couple of weeks. If I were to keep up with the rebuild of the 2.0 TB, it would cost as much just for the gaskets and seals as a whole "smaller" engine would cost. And on top of that, the expense and time spent flying back and forwards to work on the car would be a pain and not really an option.
All and any feedback would be appreciated, and as soon as i have some answers or suggestions, the sooner i can look for a good motor and get the old girl back on her feet.
Its a pity to have her sitting there as there has been over 1000 euros spent on shocks, brakes (pads and disks) and a shiny new red MOMO steering wheel!! I'd prefer to have her running on a smaller engine than not having her going at all.
