In my opinion the 2.0 JTS was a development engine, sort of a working prototype to get the technology right before Alfa installed it on all petrol models.
Personally I don't like them, they are generally less powerful than the TS, don't sound as good and have lots of reliability issues in addition to the usual TS ones.
Alfa didn't help matters in some areas. In order to prevent oil useage, and people blowing up engines due to running them low they specified a very thick oil. It cannot be a coincidence that the JTS engine suffers more instances of cam wear than the TS.
Then there is the fact that due to the direct injection there is no fuel mist to wash oil deposits from the back of the inlet valves, this leads to carbon build up and poor performance.
Not sure about the 2.2 as I haven't driven one, although it seems that engine has inherited dodgy timing chains from the opel engine it is based on.
