I'm new to 916 GTVs having just bought an '03 2.0 Twinspark last week - (I'm also new to the forum, so apologies for any incorrect etiquette, I will learn by my mistakes!) and I've a question that I hope can be simply answered. The previous (original) owner specified the car without a space saver spare or jack and just carried the factory repair pack. I prefer the comfort of a spare, so got a wheel and jack from the helpful folk at Auto Lusso. My query relates to the jack, which I suspect may not be the correct one for my car.
When the jack is raised in position, the vertical flange of the sill sits in a slot in the top face of the jack and the weight of the car is taken purely on the flat section of the top of the jack that sits outboard of the sill flange. This seems a bit odd, I would have almost expected the load to be taken on the vertical flange, or possible a combination of the flange and the outboard section of sill.
So my question is - does a genuine GTV jack lift the car on the vertical sill flange or the horizontal section of the sill that is outboard of the flange?
