2.0 jts concerns
Firstly thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this, Iím not good at describing things like this. Had the car about two months now, a 2.0 Jts, itís my first Alfa or anything like it, previously itís been an old V8 and sundry run arounds mostly Polos, the reason for my post is that Iíve got a niggling worry that things arenít right.
Firstly thereís the performance it doesnít feel lively, itíll accelerate fairly well at high speeds, but from a stand still it doesnít feel as quick as an Escort.
Second when doing around 60 in 5th it really sounds, rather than feels, like itís over reving and wants to change up. Bear in mind this may just be an engine note Iím not used to, as I say itíll accelerate fine from there. Incidentally why hasnít a 2.0 jts Gtv not got a sixth gear when other cars with the same engine has?
The carís a 43,000 miler and doesnít feel like itís been thrashed, also it looks like itís been well looked after plus itís got a full service history. Iíve just had the cambelt, water pump etc changed on time (first time was at 11,000), at which point they also changed the plugs and two coils for a misfire. While thatís cured the misfire it still sometimes to pause very briefly whilst accelerating in 3rd. At the same time they replaced the coolant and since then the gauge has pretty quickly (about 2-3 miles of bypass driving) the temperature gauge goes straight up to just over 90, it never gets any higher even after a couple of hundred miles driving and often drops back to 90, the thing is in the few weeks I drove it before the work was done the needle never went over 90. The Garage who did it has got a good reputation in fact I got them from this forum.
Lastly while manoeuvring at low speed using the clutch the exhaust seems to rattle a lot, but maybe this is me.
Does it sound like Iíve got trouble, my fear is that Iím missing something thatíll do real harm. Would the more experienced owners here recommend a trip to somewhere with a diagnostic?
Thanks again for reading.
