the rear window on my spider's hood has just split is it possible just to have the rear window replaced please say yes and how much can i expect to pay as i guess a new hood cover would be quite expensive
Hi, I have just been through this exact situation myself and can advise you precisely on what you need to do and costs.
The screen repair will cost you £86 (including return postage) if you send the hood piece to this lady
Sonia Morris advertises a screen repair service on the MG TF forums. The same service can be applied to the Spider.
The rear hood is attached by a zipper, 2 poppers and 11 M5x10mm bolts (3mm hex bolt).
The difficult part is the removal of the 11 bolts that secure the hood to the frame. I can only recommend a GREAT DEAL of patience, WD40 / Plusgas etc and to give it a couple of days to allow the penetrant to really soak in (maybe use putty to seal the penetrant).
I was not fortunate and had to have 7 of the 11 M5 bolts drilled out by a garage and new threads tapped. (extra cost).
I would recommend this service over replacing the entire screen as it can be cheaper, also the hood screen surround will be the same colour as the rest of your hood (unlike a new hood screen surround).
If you find the hood position sensor stops working and you have to reset it (by disconnecting the battery), make sure you have the key fob for the alarm.
Otherwise you will need to locate the alarm and unplug (behind the stereo, accessed via passenger side footwell, 2 screws).
I am now selling my Spider (in classifieds) and am open to reasonable offers.
