For what it's worth, I fixed my Spider's clutch (phase 1) by fitting a new seal in the master cylinder. I couldn't see how to get the cylinder out (it's in an awful place) but was able to extract the circlip and piston/pushrod by working in the footwell - the piston seal was loose and worn conical. A visit to a brake/clutch specialist yielded a new seal for a dollar and it was back in and fixed - though the spring popped off the pedal and was a ******* to refit (I think that could have been avoided if I'd been more gentle).
