Thanks for looking, just a post to see if anyone else has experience any of the following:
(sorry of im posting in the wrong place)
Just bought a stunning 1999 GTV V6 with the 6 speed box. Literally its almost perfect, black with red leather, aero pack... everything !! lol and after a couple of very enthusiastic days driving, i took the car out yesterday for just 15miles and noticed immediately upon start up that the gears were very hard to get into, reverse especially. I can push the stick into each gear but theres alot of resistance, the car doesnt always grind - but sometimes does, reverse having so much resistance will grind everytime. The reverse issue may be cause by the fact that when idle - the cars revs 'bounce' around, from maybe 700 to 900 constantly up and down. As a note i knew the synchro on 3rd was going as it grind everytime - so already given thought to a new gearbox/clutch. One thing i did notice is when in any gear, the gearstick has alot of left and right play in it - maybe an entire inch or so at the top of the stick. Another note, the clutch pedal does seem pretty stiff but i figured thats just because its a sporty car, so just to be safe i always stamp the clutch to the ground.
After a little looking around iv read that the potential problem with my above crunching gear issue can be caused by too little oil in the geabox - but i woudlnt even know where to start to check this or indeed top it up, if i even can do that myself !!
Secondly when in gear and i have the clutch in, the car shakes/judders but only when the clutch is in and a gear is engaged. The car has the Q2 diff - which i heard is almost bulletproof. But can i double check this as i cant see anything on any receipts i have with the car - unless its available as new, from Alfa Romeo as an upgrade. But im confident i have it after my drive home in the car, it has poor tyres but was gripping like a gecko when putting power down even around bends. Another thing iv noticed is that when idle or driving at certain times a quite loud ticking noise can be heard - im sure its something shaking as it only appears now and then and if i depress the clutch by maybe just a CM the tick goes. Almost sounds like when you attach a playing card to your bike wheel - but alot faster !!
One last point, the car shakes quite aggresively when idle, i dont know if this is just because of the Busso beast up front though
Iv been looking around and it seems the 2.5 V6 parts fit - such as the dual mass fly wheel (whatever that is!) and a GTA cltuch kit. Is this correct and worth me getting ??
Also anyone dare to give me an idea what cost im looking at for all these parts/issues resolved ?? Im hoping to have the work done with Smaky fom this forum - he seems very reasonable but parts are my worry at the mo !!
Thanks again Alfa gurus
