Off to Classic Spa in May & my mates are all convinced it will be my Alfa (bought back end of last year) that will breakdown first - VERY keen to prove them all wrong!
The person i bought from replaced the cambelt themselves last March & gave me receipts for two pulleys, tensioner, belt and aux belt/pulleys, gasket and spark plugs.
I asked a local italian specialist to check the car over and they told me they could not check the cambelt and should get it redone as the waterpump had not been changed. They also then said the pulleys are very, very slightly out to the arrow?
The clutch is heavy so suspect needs replacing although only done 44k! For these two jobs (not even GTA flywheel converson) they quoted me over £1400. When I queried the price they then said oh yeah there is a very very slight oil gasket leak at back of engine? To be honest, I did not trust them.
Now thinking of taking it down to Autolusso as heard they seem to offer excellent service/value/expertise - Also tempted by Q2 at same time - but its a long way to go - wish they had a NE branch!
so getting to the point...
do I really need to have the cambelt, all the pulleys/waterpump replaced? - is there no way to properly check? presumably the spark pugs dont need changing again either?
Am I insane going all the way down to autolusso or eminantly sensible? Anyone had similar work done? - Havnt seen any NE specialist be open with their pricing/detail what they would do when replacing the clutch/flywheel or indeed offer Q2
oh its a v6 GTV 1999 with 44k miles
