At least two problems with this idea.
I think you will struggle to get Classic Insurance on a 916 Car. It depends on the company of course so it may pay you to trawl around the Classic Insurance companies to see what they say, some may well accept a 916 as a Classic
The major stumbling block I found may be the conditions that the Car on a Classic Policy MUST NOT be your primary/main Car, in other words you must have another Car that is your main transport. I looked at this last October for my 916 GTV and that was the thing that defeated me, after spending hours on the 'Net and 'phone I gave up and had to take a Standard Policy. Of course if you do have another Car that you use as your main transport you might well succeed, with a bit of perseverance.
Also note that Classic Insurance does not build up NCB. Obviously your NCB is taken into consideration when you get a quote but that's it.
I do have Classic Insurance on my V6 Alfetta, £140 p.a. with Chris Knott. As it turns out it's with Highway Insurance, the same company that insures the 916 Car.
If you do find a way to do it I think a lot of us would be very interested !
Good luck, I fear you will need it along with a big dollop of patience !
