V6 Sump design

Hello all in the Spider & GTV lounge

I'm currenty building a front engined RWD kitcar using a ford drive chain (type 9 box, english axle arrangement) and am looking for some help.

I'm using the 164 3.0 V6 12v engine turned sideways to mate to the ford gearbox.

The two things i would like to find out are:

1 Is the sump fron the GTV (as its mounted the correct way ) different from that of the 164. I am going to have to cut a bout 3" of the sump to get ground clearence. This will loose a bout 2 litres oil unless a come up with a better plan (dry sump, oil accumulator) I was hoping that the GTV6 sump was longer and shorter with the same capacity. If anyone knows or even has a picture / diagram it would be spot on.

2 the input shaft from my ford gearbox is going to have to fit into a spigot bearing on the 164 crank. I was wondering what the arrangement was for the GTV6. I believe its transaxle, is the clutch at the back ? There is no spigot bearing on the 164 as it only has a very short shaft, but there is room to fit one. I thought this may have been left from a past use of the engine.

Anyhelp most welcome

Re: V6 Sump design

I don't know if it helps, there is some chap who put a V6 into a spider; maybe do a web search on Alfa V6 spider conversions or similar, his web page had lots of useful info. If I remember I'll try to post the website on Monday (it's saved on my work PC). IIRC he used a sump from an Alfa 90 as it's designed for RWD. The GTV6 had the clutch at the back, as did the 75 etc. Good luck with the project, I always thought an Alfa V6 kit car would be absolutely spot on! Incidentally, what is it? Looks a bit like a gemini?

Re: V6 Sump design

I thought that it was very popular to replace the RWD 2.5V6 with the FWD 12 v and 24V 3.0 V6.

Even Squadra Tuning have a page on a V6 Alfa engined Dax.

I think there should be plenty of knowledge out there on how best to achieve a FWD to RWD conversion and which sumps will fit.
