Importing a GTV to Australia

Hey guys,

I've finally moved to Oz and now I'm looking to import my GTV over.

Does anyone have any experience with importing an Alfa to Oz? Did you have any issues with the approval because of its UK spec?

And can anyone recommend a good shipping company to use?

Thanks in advance for any help/good advice given,

I think Clive has looked into it and the taxation on an import is so extreme it's not worth it... I know someone who can ship it Roll-on-Roll-off though so PM me if you want the details.

A couple lads from a lotus forum have imported elans to oz,
this is what they posted

shipping including tax's was about 1500, Compliance test 500
$1700 for the initial registration and about $600 a year after that.

i think,The process at the local registration office was fairly striaght forward. Fill out a form, provide proof of identity, proof of ownership, import compliance certificate and road worthy certificate. The guy then checked that the vin and engine number matched the documents and asked for a market value figure to which I told him $10,000 instead of the actual $30,000. My Great Uncle was a car sales man and told me to do this as the people at the registation office won't have any idea of the true value and they won't check. That brought the rego fee down by about $700. I then handed over about a grand and they handed me a set of number plates and a registration sticker for the windscreen. Took less than half an hour.

hope this helps

Awesome - thanks guys - I've emailed a few official offices to see what they say - I was expected around 3,000 to import, steam clean, register, etc. Just wanted to know if anything else had to be done to Alfa's to get them roadworthy over here.

Watch this space...will let you know how it goes and post details of any problems I get.

You need km/h clocks or a sticker/re-paint over the existing clocks..

I'd nip over to Pierre (French eBay) and buy a set of cheapo km/h clocks before you go.
