Gtv V6 TB -96 Oil sump question

Hello there!

A few days ago I was out driving. After a while I noticed the water temp climbing up to just about 95 degrees (85 is normal). I stopped and checked the oil. It was bellow the minimum amount marked on the stick. I then discovered a crack in the oil sump. I ran to a nearby workshop and fetched some oil and gently drove the car over to them. Since then it's been standning there and I am waiting for them to give me a call about a price on the job. My question is, is it possible to remove the oil sump from bellow only by using a hydraulic jack? In this case I can do the jobb myself and get away much cheaper! Or is the oil pump and/or any piping in the way that requires the height gained by a real lift?

Would you also recommend me to weld it or replace it completely?

Thank you!

I think just using a jack it'll be a pig of a job. If I remember correctly, just the oil-return of the turbo goes into the front side of the sump, and no other oil-related connections.
But the exhaust of the rear cylinders goes past the sump LHS to the turbo, from turbo to the rear the exhaust is on the RHS of the sump. Those are in the way should you want to remove the sump, oil pump is no problem as that will stay on the engine.

So if you remove all of those bits of exhaust, which is a pain lying on your back, you would be able to undo the sump yourself.

If you want to weld it is up to you, depends a bit on the quality of the welder doing the job (it aluminium) and how the crack looks.
