I've pulled it all apart and replaced the seal sent by Laurence at Autolusso and now no water leak so am eternally grateful to him. I now have a new problem which you guys may know the cause of instantly.
Before I pulled it apart it was running like a dream. It now seems to have an idle of somewhere between 200 and 900 and sounds as if it is "chugging". I checked the timing a million times and everything was tensioned with the correct tools. I used a dti guage and camlocks. The lobes of the cams on cylinder 1 pointed backwards and the camlocks fitted perfectly. I marked the crank pulley with Tippex and the timing mark lined up with the one on the cam cover perfectly. The balance shafts are both at 12 o'clock. I am sure all the cables went back as they were.
I drove it for 10 miles last night and it seems as responsive as it was before.
Any help appreciated..........Cheers
