Confirm a faulty O2 sensor..

Can someone confirm that an dodgy or faulty O2 sensor won't bring up the engine management light? Just my 2.0 phase 2 spider is doing around 80 miles to 20 driving normally!!! Replaced the maf, new thermostat as thought last one was sticking and now running out of options... Plugged in and brought up no faults (what the local garage said). Had a few people say it could be the lamba O2 sensor or temp sensor causing to use alot of fuel..?? Its just got to the stage where I'm putting 40 every 2 days I her and getting no more than 150 miles at a push.... Please help..
