Expected life of original front shock absorbers?
My GTV has some unusual front shock absorbers and I am a little concerned about being able to source new replacements should they need replacing, especially as I have a friend with a 1999 Spider who says that he is unable to get some parts needed to fix his electric roof. Bilstein, Koni, KYB, etc. do not make front shock absorbers for my car, they were only fitted to phase 3 two litre cars, and evidently then only to later produced cars.
I am considering getting a spare pair but at £270/280 a pair they are not cheap, especially if they will never be used.
When bought my car had done 53,000 miles (now 61,000) and a few thousand miles ago I replaced the rears with Bilstein B6 and the quality of the ride was transformed, before it felt like the car had no rear suspension. The front though feels perfectly OK at the moment.
I would be interested to hear of other owners experience with the original Alfa front shock absorbers, not just my model. I should think all models would be similar as far as the quality of manufacture is concerned, I certainly was not impressed with the longevity of the rear shock absorbers.
