Can anyone help I have a 3l v6.
I can be driving it and all of a sudden it will start running really badly to the point it wouldnt get up a steep hill but I can pull over turn it off then start it back up and it will be fine agian.
I have read posts about air flow meters but they never sound like the missing is as bad as what mines experiencing.
it also wont pass the mot beacuse of emmissions
Thanks for your time.
Perhaps try unplugging coil packs one at a time - I would think the one that's faulty would unplug with no difference - engine management fault light will probably come on as a result of this but (I hope) it will go off again when coil packs are reconnected? If you don't have the equipment to reset it, it might be safest not to do this test and to settle for a visual inspection instead. The one that's faulty is perhaps arcing on the high-voltage side. Check the spark plugs too...
The engine ECU can also shut down one coil if a cylinder is misfiring repeatedly (again, perhaps due to arcing or faulty spark plug) and this would explain why it would come right when the engine is restarted. Look for tiny holes burnt in the tube that presses down over the sparkplug. I have heard of one good solution being a plastic sheet (e.g. Mylar) curled to fit inside the hole around the installed sparkplug.
It's OK, you're not alone, mine's not running on six either... but then, mine only has four cylinders (sorry, couldn't resist)...
