Crash damage - soliloquy

Yesterday some [insert descriptive term] failed to see my bright red Spider waiting behind him at a petrol pump (or hear the horn being blasted) as he reversed his 4x4 (and tow bar) straight through my front grille and into the radiator.

It is strange how the expression "sorry I didn't see you" can provoke such a strong emotional reaction.

As a biker, I always expected to be lying under a motorbike in crippling agony when I first heard those words. Yesterday was a different sort of pain.

A pain amplified by having wanted to buy a red Spider for 7 years, but never thinking "to hell with the practicality". A pain amplified by finally finding a 'good' example and travelling 1000 miles to pick her up. A pain amplified by the fact that the car I owned since mid-July will probably be scrapped due to being "beyond economic repair". A pain amplified by inconvenience as it was my main mode of transportation.

I will post a practical request for advice separately.

Treasure your cars.

Typical 4 x 4 drivers. Q7s are the worse - totally oblivious to any other road user and ignorantly unaware they are driving expensive pimped transit vans

My vote goes to range rover drivers, usually the women on the school run in HSE's thinking they need both lanes to get round corners..

Hope you managed to get it sorted mate.

if its the bumper and rad, it shouldnt be too expensive to repair if you DIY. Maybe buy it back from the insurance company? i think i would....

The same happened to me about 18 months ago......a septagenarian in a Zafira......pleased to say it was only my front bumper damaged so fixed on his insurance.

It was a good job there were witnesses because at first he said I was as much to blame as I had driven into him.....a bit hard to do when my engine ws switched off next to 2 other cars who's drivers laughed at him...

If it is written off, buy it back and repair with used parts......

Have you a photo of the damage? Perhaps someone can visually assess and give you some ammunition for the insurance war?

EDIT: nevermind seen your other thread :O
