Price is something that will always be a matter of feel and willingness. I just bough a 15 year old 96 Spider 2.0TS for 2 grand and they may seem expensive or cheap depending on what you compare it with and how it condition is.
I probably could have bough a SAAB Convertible and had more space and maybe even paid less, but I wanted a Spider,,, I bought it blind, never saw it or tested it, as it came from within my family. I am very pleased with it and it keeps me smiling. Yes, it is not as fast as my 3.0 V6 166 and neither has it got the space or comfort of the 166. But I can remove the roof, enjoy driving in a totally different way and indeed enjoy the design and looks of the car from any angle. Not possible with a SAAB (or is it a Vauxhall..)... Many of you might say why not get a never model, with all the changes made in phase2 etc. Yes, ideally that would have been good, but having bough a few cars in my life I also know that when you have the option to buy a car where you know the complete history it is worth considering. Only two previous owners 1st owner FIAT UK, followed by 15 years by an Uncle.. Needless to say I don't worry too much if the car is really worth 1000, 2000 or maybe more as I bough it to have fun, enjoy and expect to keep it for 5 or more years. After having deprived myself of Alfa's for 30 years I am certainly catching up with three Alfa's currently on the driveway. What is important to remember though is that my uncle wanted 3k for it but it did not sell in 10 months. If I tried to sell it next week, I might struggle to get my money back too, but to me it is not an investment it is an enjoyment and as long as I feel the cost matches the rewards and the smile then why not.
I did read the whole thread and our views will and do greatly vary, but so does my wifes. She says she likes the car, which I believe as she drives it a lot, but she also appreciates that if I enjoy it and it makes me happy, then overall life is good.
The forum is for all views both from private and professionals and remember that we all sometimes need the professionals even if it might be just to offload a car or get some advice or parts. Go enjoy your Alfa.
