It's like this to me, a private seller is selling a GTV cause they either fancy a change, can't afford to run one anymore or maybe had one bill to many for a 12 year old Alfa. Many reasons....
A dealer is selling cause they want to make money on a car. Simple, if not they are in the wrong business.
So if a dealer is selling a GTV we can assume it has some profit in it, like in my sales job it's all about margins. But a dealer will rarely lose money. So if a GTV main dealer is selling GTVs for 5-6k then we can say that a GTV minus his profit margin (maximum) is probably hmm say 4k? So take away the dealer benefits of peace of mind makes good private sellers cars worth maybe 3- 3.5k. Then so we can safely say the higher mileage no FSH GTVs though still probably cared for and loved and had money spent bit missing perfect paint and history will be priced 3k downwards...and we mean downwards to even in one case a GTV V6 sold for
under 1k... it wasn't that bad, so yeah rednose is right.
And again I'll state this, Clive dosen't buy his GTVs for the price hr sells them for, he says he spends 2k plus on them. So with his profit he's buying GTVs for 2-3k maybe less, so he's benefiting from cheap Alfa GTV residuals, now he's panicking he wants to turn that around !! you cant have your cake and eat it Clive!!
...& you've got your figures wrong. There's no formula, each car's costs are different. You win some, you lose some. Please stop trying to 2nd guess my business.
For people who aren't home mechanics or DIYers they will have labour costs involved & probably pay retail for parts. Being in the trade I normally manage to get the work done cheaper especially as I actually do some of the work myself.
For someone to pay a 3rd party to upgrade & service their car it can easily cost them more than buying from me. I've said all this before but it keeps being ignored & not all my cars are £6k.
Also none of my adverts are bid on auctions or have a 'Buy it Now' facility or Paypal etc so customers have to call to discuss details with me personally, therefore the price (which is dependant on spec ) is fully out in the open, as it is in the wording of all my adverts.
This thread wasn't supposed to be whether dealers try
to earn a profit, that's obvious. It was whether remarks made on here were damaging to the GTV's values?
I think certain remarks are, others don't agree.
