Sadly slot of good Alfas are shed money.
some posts are now suggesting if you want a nice sorted GTV go to a dealer like Clive. that's unfair on private sellers is it not??
I sold my GTV it was hard because I love that car it's personal to me. but I was sitting on a dead duck which will over next 3 years plummet in value .
if we are suggesting the GTV will start to go up in value cause they are classics now... well surely the 1996 GTVs should be more exapensice as they are older? that's how classics work yeah? but no 1996 GTVs are worth 200 to 700 quid..... sheds, but some are sheds with low miles and 1 owners...
food for thought.
I have to say its been an enjoyable thread to read albeit it does seem to have become to some a "lets attack Clive thread"
GTV's are beautiful cars to look at and when they work (particularly the V6) a joy to drive.
Will I get my money back if I put on Q2. new shocks and dampers, new exhaust. replace the Cam belt etc etc.
No but I will have a great car to drive in the meantime.
You mention that you gave up your loved GTV because over the next three years the value will plummet and you will have a Dead Duck.
Maybe true but what fun you will have missed in the meantime.
Some people smoke and drink and gamble. Maybe all three !!
If they enjoy that then thats up to them.
I would rather spent my money on a car I enjoy driving and when I come to sell it whatever I get for it is what I accept.
Life is far to short to worry about the years ahead.
You and I and anyone else on the forum here could have had a fatal car accident (please God No) in the months/ few years ahead and where would your short term worry about having a dead duck on the drive be.
Lets all accept its a great car to look at and drive and its value is really only important to ourselves. Clive and other dealers are business men and need to earn a profit to survive especially hard in this difficult climate.
This thread began with reasons for why value's are falling and the answers are clear.
However those things aside to me this car is a classic.
Pininfarina designed and built with a ex Ferrari engineer creating the fantastic V6 engine.
Maybe one day its value will rise and rise. Maybe only for a limited amount of models.
Frankly I don't care even if it doesn't.
Just happy to be a Alfa driver every day
