Electrical Worry...

Hello, I am having an annoying electrical problem. When I start my GTV it sounds like the battery is really dead - hardly turns over. It has done this 2 or 3 times and the first time I thought the car was going nowhere... But turn it over a couple of times and it springs to life. I noticed afterwards that my trip meter and also my 'front off' stereo had reset... Any ideas what is happening? When I leave the car parked I don't tend to set the alarm so its not related to that.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Electrical Worry...

It does sound like your battery is loosing charge.
This could be down to three things: 1# Old battery... 2# Poor Alternator... 3# Load on battery when parked.

1: if the battery is more than 5yrs old, this could be the cause. Place a multimeter on the battery terminals when the car is parked, and see what measurement you get.
2: With the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery terminal. Should be 13.5 at a minimum.
3: Look for the interior boot light (if you have one) remaining on...?

Also you shold always remove the face of your stereo otherwise it is in standby mode and most will flatten a good battery in a few days.

Re: Electrical Worry...

My battery complete sh#t itself a month ago. (3.0 GTV), would not take charge, could not jump start it. Nothing! New battery in, and it went sweet again.
It went completely without warning . Did try recharging it - got one start (with a struggle) then it was completely dead again.
