Spider 2.0L P2 OBDII Compliant?

Sorry if I'm going over old ground here, I have searched but most threads relate to the P1 3-pin Diagnostic connector workaround...

Is a 1999 Spider OBDII compliant or not?

I have located the connector, and connected up my (simple) SEALEY VS8700 OBDII/EOBD CODE READER, but it will not link.

Maybe I have answered my own question there!

If it isn't then do I need to get a 16 pin >>> USB cable and start looking for the correct SW etc..?

Have a look at the Fiat Scan ECU thread, I think this is what you will need. You need the 16pin plug that has been adapted slightly. They are about 25 delivered off ebay. The software is free for the limited feature version (this will do some useful things like reset the airbag warning) or you can upgrade for 49 euros to the full version which does a lot more

I read somewhere that in general, a red injector warning light (like my 2000 Spider has) means "not OBD2 compliant", and a yellow engine outline warning light (like my 2003 156 has) means "OBD2 compliant".

However both have the 16-pin connector, I use one of those translucent-blue cables sold by 'mediasave' on eBay (excellent service; bought five for friends) and I use Alfadiag. So far on the Spider I've cleared an airbag light and I've worked on three Selespeed 156s, making the license fee well worthwhile. Then I found out about FIATEcuScan... I'm technically a moderator on Yani's forum so I should recommend FIATEcuScan too

A normal code reader will work on a phase 2 but wont only for engine diagnostics not abs or airbag
