GTV TS Alloy Cam Cover Bolts Torque Settings
Hi, I'm a newby.
Last year I bought a red 3.0 GTV Lusso 46k miles and a black 2.0 GTV 43k miles. I had a 156 TS round about 2000 and swore I'd never own another Alfa as it broke down abroad and left me stranded, but I had to buy a GTV, and once I had bought the 3.0 I had a chance of a 2.0 TS and so have bought it as a daily hack.
So the TS was dripping oil, and I sussed it from the forum that the cam cover gasket needed replacing, although it must have been new in 2013 when the cam belt was changed.
I bought a new gasket, took the necessary to bits, cleaned the faces, put it back together and torqued up the bottom left hand bolt to 7NM. I read this was ok on the forum, and can't find a reference on my online manual. "CRACK" - it cracked the cam cover bottom left hand corner!! I had tightened all the other bolts a little and was just starting to torqu them up.
An Alfa specialist has told me that this is common on the alloy 'cover. So I have got a welding shop to see if they can fix it.
Please can somebody say with authority - what is the torque setting for the alloy cam cover bolts? Is it 7NM and have I been unlucky, or is it 5NM or something (not much difference!)
