Bilstein B6 shock absorbers now fitted to the rear only
Had the new Bilstein B6 rear shock absorbers fitted yesterday, the ride seemed a lot better coming back from the garage. Today went out to test the car over some known poorly surfaced roads and also some 'sleeping policemen' humps - the car ride quality is definitely massively improved. It now feels that I have rear suspension - before it was as if there was no rear springing when I hit a bump, the rear end just seemed to lock solid. Also going fast round bumpy bends it seemed that at last I was in control, not just hanging on and praying. Well pleased. No downside.
I only bought the car about two months ago with 53,000 miles on the clock, so I do not know how it was with the original new shock absorbers, but I doubt that it was any better than now as far as the rear end is concerned, and I have rear shock absorbers that will probably last the life of the car, not needing replacement in about another 30,000 miles. The fronts are still original, but I do not feel any need to rush into replacing them, the main problem was obviously with the rears, just as I had thought.
