Alfa Spider 2000 - Not starting

I have a 2000 (W) Spider TS Lusso 2.0 - The engine turns over fine, battery is good but will not start, the yellow code light remains illuminated. This is the first time this has happened, car has less than 50k miles on the clock. Initial thoughts are that it was immobilised, but i've tried locking/unlocking still no joy. I recently (2mths ago) changed to the 2nd key as 1st, which i had used from new 11yrs ago, stopped unlocking the car.

We have had a bit of rain over the last 24hrs so not sure if its damp getting in - any thoughts, ideas, fixes would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Welcome to AO!

Probably no response as there are no GTV Spider owners in here.
You need the other lounge.

If the CODE light stays on then the Immobilizer IS activated, completely separate thing to the Locking/Alarm functions, so that's the problem.

Sadly though I'm not able to offer much advice on this, hopefully some one more expert than me will be along soon.

A general failsafe ECU reboot would mean disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and then reconnecting it and trying again.

It may work

Car started ok next day, although failed to start a couple of times and yellow code light stayed on - car spent 4 days in the garage, they checked all the circuits and did diagnostic check and could find no fault. Its happened once more but after taking key out and back in it started ok - garage's assumption is that it must have been something to do with the wet weather....Full credit to the garage (Alfa Rusper) who only charged me 30, they could have ripped me off for spending a lot of time on it.

might be worth you getting a new key made up just in case your key is on the way out before it loses the code, i believe there can also be intermittent issues with the aeriel in the steering column not sending/recieving the signal, however i am no expert these are just common faults that seem to crop up on the forum.
