Madness More tales of woe.

Recently fitted a different engine in my GTV 2.0L TS thinking i was back on the road. As i have posted in other threads it sounded tappety, and struggled starting. Got my mechanic to check it out. Carried out a compression test and found that only one cylinder had reasonable compression the other three were extrememly low. He then did a wet test and the compression came up, tested again half an hour later (after a brew and a chat) and it was back to ok on 1 cyinder and no good on the other 3. He summarised and said that it would be the piston rings. Anybody got any thoughts.

Got any guarantee from the supplier of the engine? Sometimes an engine that has been standing a long time can get stuck rings until it warms up properly - a dose of the old remedy (Redex) can help......

BUt I wouldn't hold out too much hope.......
