Isn't it a case of finding the best example you can get for your budget rather than setting your sights on a particular car?
I guess there's some value in that you know that trader and have dealt with them before, as there could be in working on it yourself to reduce the cost of upkeep and finding a new hobby, learning new skills, getting a feel good factor from having done it yourself.
The first sentence above is motivated by the fact that sometimes people set their sights on a particular car that's for sale on a trader's forecourt without even looking to see if there are better examples around. I can think of one instance where someone is selling a car that needs a repair that's several times its value while wanting another that they've seen which could easily be in need as just as much to get up to scratch with regard to servicing and getting mechanically and chassis wise up to scratch. They see the big bill looming for their current car but see the car on the trader's forecourt as being spot on and without the possibility of big bills to get it serviced or there being a big bill just around the corner with that one.
