Some of you may remember my previous threads re: my car failing the Dutch MOT on excessive emissions - around 0.8% CO and excessive HC at around 80ppm.
After trying various things including oil changes, sparkplugs, injector cleaning, octane booster, smoke tests, 4 gas analyser tests, O2 tests, heat tests (you name it, it had it) the problem was finally solved today with the fitting of a 'new' OE CAT from a breaking GTV sold to me on here by Italiaautoparts (recommended). CO% is 0.00 and HC 10ppm, meaning it sailed through.
Now, the CAT that was on there was just over 1yr old and was sold by one of the 'leading' after market CAT companies in the UK, with a massive presence in the industry. The CAT also has 'an industry leading' 2yr comprehensive guarantee!!!! I wont name and shame (due to forum rules) but if anyone is looking at replacing their CAT....
1. Go OE if you can.
2. Avoid the company I used, email/PM me and ill tell you the company!!
The company itself have been a complete PITA from the start to the finish and despite all the early tests indicating that the CAT was indeed broken they continually fobbed me off. Now I have final and certain proof that their part was indeed faulty ive given them one last chance of a refund before I claim it back on my CC.
As a happy side effect with an OE CAT back on the car and new sparkplugs the engine is running much sweeter and the exhaust sounds better too - I have Ragazzon centre and rear sections and it was a bit too obnoxious before, now its got that sweet TS sing to it again
Should have listened to my trusty specialist who from day 1 was pointing at the CAT, but I couldnt quite believe it with it being so new...... live and learn huh!
