If your mechanic needs that info he will definitely need cam locks.
My opinion, get your car from him and take it to someone who know the cars or you will end up bending valves as soon as the variator actuates the first time.
If you are lucky the car will just not perform properly since the cam timing will be out.
Did he make proper marks before he removed the belt?
If he didn’t make proper marks and haven’t got locks don’t fire the motor up it will probably end up costing you money.
