You have a couple of options,
Replace the resistor...Eper price and dealer price is really expensive, circa £40 i know i've recently bought one however with my backside twitching each time the temperature got to 100 it was what i needed to do.
The other alternative is to run a switch so that you can switch it on and off when needed, i did this for a while when i had a Sierra Cosworth it was cheaper than stripping out the radiator , the Alfa resistors obviously are much more accessible..and so easier to replace..
Bear in mind that over 40 mph the fan is then fighting against the airflow through the front vents so you compromise the cooling is the fan is running.
