Slightly worrying burning smell

When I drive my GTV particularly hard I sometimes get a bit of a worrying burning smell. I think (and hope) its just the clutch but has anyone else noticed this?

Its not burning rubber as I am careful not to spin the wheels when accellerating from standing.

Over the weekend I took a friend out for a spin. He thought his Puma 1.7 was quite fast so obviously I had to show him. I drove up the local dual carriageway red lining it through the first three gears and got a bit of clutch slip when I put the power on but not much.

I always make sure the engine is warm before I drive hard but if its not the clutch then what could it be? I recently had a 48k service and they didn't mention the clutch being worn or anything. Any suggestions as to what I could check for wear/damage? Does anyone know if Autodelta do an uprated clutch? Is my Bambi about to die?

Thumbs Up Re: Slightly worrying burning smell

Clutch smells of smokey bacon.

You can check if it's slipping by trying to drive off slowly with the handbrake on.. a good clutch will try and push the car up against the resistance, whereas a shagged plate will be more feeble.

48k is in the "clutch life " window.
