I keep getting the engine management light illuminating on my '99 v6 GTV. One minute the car drives fine and then the light comes on and it will not rev freely until it hits approx 4500 revs, then it blasts away until it's time to change gear and then the process begins again.
It pulls away on limited revs, as if it is in "limp home " mode as I have read in previous threads. If I let it idle for a bit, after starting and then blip the throttle, this puts the light out and generally stops the problem. There seems to be no pattern to this happening. The car has a Monza sport chip to 240 bhp, could this possibly cause this problem
I have checked the air intake for leaks, it's new and there are none. I have removed the carpet panel on the passenger footwell and tried to check the connections , seems to make no difference. I have tried both the throttle ECU and a full ECU reset and this turns it out straight away but then the same fault happens after a few miles. Is this likely to be a MAF sensor problem or maybe throttle potentiometer maybe. Also, if this is down to a loose connection, will this be picked up as a fault code if I have the car plugged in to diagnostics.
It's bugging me, as I feel I should be able to enjoy this beautiful motor in the sunshine instead of driving along trying to diagnose what the problem is. I love my GTV , it was and still is, the car of my dreams but at the moment she is trying my patience. Any help would be gratefully receive
