Hi, my Clarion (on 2000 spider lusso) keeps switching itself off e.g. when going over bumps/pressing buttons. I've cleaned the front detactchable planel contacts. Anyone else had the same problem? How do I remove the unit (no tools with car) - tried with paperclip/screwdriver. Thanks for any help
Clarion units need special extractors which are easily and cheaply available from Halfords etc and they slide in at the sides of the radio, however the 'built-in' radio needs two pins inserted at the front. Have a look at the connections at the back to ensure they are snug/not broken had the same problem with a friend's Sony unit and it was a poor connection on the live feed.
you can also get it out using two bamboo kebab skewers, i found - although careful they don't break. coat hanger may be better. then what you need to do is take the little detachable front bit, and drop it behind the changer in the spider's back compartment, so that you can't reach it and it works its way deep into the chassis anyone got a spare?
Re. the outcome of my original posting I took the stereo to my local Clarion dealer, who diagnosed a problem with the detachable security panel. A new one and £45 + VAT later it works fine.
Jamesock try http://www.clarion-eu.com/uk/ they have a 'contact us' section, the technical support replied to me within a day, they may get it you cheaper.
