I remember looking at that longer fifth gear a while back. Might be worth investigating again. Perhaps I can take the 'box off and get it re-furbished by someone.
Hi Simon, nice to see you here again.
I reckon that refurbing a Gearbox would be very expensive, better off trying to get one from a scrap car. Even that isn't going to be cheap and I don't think you'd get your cash back if you then sold it on. Been quite a few decent sounding TS for sale recently around the £1K mark so wouldn't really expect much more than that for a fully working car.
You've seen mine, it's in decent nick, 104K on the clock and has just got an MoT for the next thirteen Months. If I was to sell it I would be delighted to get £1.5 K but don't think that I would.
I'm afraid that economics are against you and tbh don't know what I would do if I were in your situation.
I think it only makes sense to repair it if you want to keep it. If you don't want to keep it my gut feeling would be to sell on as it is, perhaps to someone who wants a little project and has the time and ability to do the work themselves.
I've often thought about things like this, should mine ever need the Rear Suspension job for instance I would have to think very hard as I don't think it make economic sense, same for the Cambelt job too.
This is the sort of dilemma that I think a lot of us could be facing over the next few years.
