Fitted the new inner bushes to my scrap subframe inner lugs today as suggested by Seadart, the fit was very loose as they weren't even fitted to the spring pan, I set the torque wrench to max and tightened it up, even though the metal centre is below 50mm and the old ones are just over it didn't harm the frame. As suggested when fitted to the spring pan the shoulders will probably fill the space a little better, I tried this and they did, but it seems to me that these are a little too narrow. So it seems the bushes have been reduced in width as they were being supplied at 52mm plus until recently, the new bushes make for much easier installation.
I tried to fit the outer spring pan bushes today - what a contrast! I received no instructions with these, so not sure I'm doing the right thing but these bushes have much narrower shoulders and have two washers for each bush in the pack. I expect the washers should be fitted either side of the bush in the space behind the hub. If this is the case then the bushes have to be fitted absolutely flush with the face of the spring pan bearing shell, I can't get mine to go in that far, whatever I do one side or the other sits at least 1mm off the edge which means I wont be able to fit the washers. Am I correct in my assumption that two washers should be fitted? If I am how do you do get them fitted flush on both sides?? What purpose do they serve? If they are needed on the outer bushes why aren't they needed on the inners? Does anyone know? Or theorise?
