my 1996 916 2.0l has just died!
i noticed over the last few days it was a little ropey driving and when i starting it up i had to give it a push on the accelerator or it might not start.
so i was driving home, half way up a hill and then......nothing the car just cut out (yet lights still on etc)
so i pulled over tried to start it up and nothing just the lights came on and a blep noice? waited a few mins and then tried it again and alarm started going off, played around locking and unlocking the car and still nothing?
though it might be the battery so walk home (only five mins away) pick up the other car and jump leads. so tried jumping it and nothing, same blep noice?
tried master key and still nothing?
so call AA and the guy charged the battery and still nothing (alarm when of a few times and made some bleep noices and clicking noices (like preditor noise)
then he thought it was the alternator, so he hot bump started it? it started but the engine sounded rough and tried to jump out of the bonnet, it did go/start only for a second and then died and he couldnt get it going again.
his conclusion is that the cam belt has slipped or jumped
so toed me home and the car has been on the drive since. On his sheet he has written "battery hot boost started engine very noisey and struggled to turn over suspected timing belt jumped, requires further investigation."
so today i had a play (no idea what i was doing
just looking for some damage) and found this
does this look like its the problem the spark pug covers (to easy?)? or has this happened because of something else like the cam belt slipping? please help as i dont want to give up on her
