How have I broken it this time?
I would really appreciate some help in determining what the hell I have done to my car.
I have just finished replacing the suspension all round with new McPherson struts on the front with -20mm eibach springs (and new OE top suspension mounts).
Whilst the car has been off the road I have also replaced the gearbox oil with fully-synth Millers GL5 75w-90 (recommended oil for the g'box). There were no problems with the oil change and I put in +/- 10% the same amount of oil that came out.
There were also no issues with the suspension replacement, everything went back together well, no rubbing, car sits well. Its a shame I changed the g'box oil at the same time as the suspension as now I have two possible causes.
When I was easing the car out of the garage it drove fine for the first 3/4 of a metre (about 1 full revolution of the wheel) and then it stops dead - it almost feels like you are driving on to a wheel chock. No grinding, no clunks it just very suddenly and forcibly comes to a halt. For the small distance the car will drive, it feels fine.
I immediately put the car back on axle stands and rotated the front wheels by hand - same problem. The problem is also the same when rotating the wheel backwards.
As I rotate one wheel the other wheel does NOT rotate in the opposite direction as I would expect.
The problem is the same no matter if the car is in 1st, reverse or neutral.
The only thing I can see that looks even slightly amiss is that the CV boot on the drivers side (gearbox end) looks slightly twisted and appears to become more twisted as the shaft turns.
So, please, anybody what have I done?
