Hi Fred, have recently replaced the radiator on mine, first thing i would say is your coolant pink/red or blue? Do not mix different coolants and you should be able to buy Ltr or 2 Ltr containers of already mixed coolant at most motor factors.
To drain system as already advised remove bottom radiator hose and it should flow out. When you are installing a new radiator flush the engine with a hose pipe, just turn it on and go and have a cup of tea or beer whatever your flavour? The best place to do this is remove thermostat so that you can wash all the crud out of the block. You will find when refilling the system that the capacity will be less than the Alfa manual states, the reason for this is that there is usually always approx 2 ltrs remaining in block unless you can tip the car upside down and shake the remaining out. On refill i fill with neat coolant 1st with the full recommended coolant amount divided by two and then just top up with ionised water until at max level. Bleed the air from the system and then check it daily for a week or so. You will notice a drop especially after a good drive so just top-up with ionised water and it will soon maintain a max level.
PS: I bought my radiator from Boston radiators on ebay £85 posted but your courier will be more, recommend them and begrudge paying £200 for a OEM when the after market radiators are every bit as good.
