Have just replaced the spark plugs and the air filter. I noticed that the rubber ducting on the inlet, just before the butterfly valve, was split. I have taped it up for now until i get a new one.
Put everything back together and went for a drive. Oh. My. God. What a difference. Feels like i've been given an extra 50 bhp!
It flies off the line. No hesitation, no slipping the clutch. Just whoosh!
Now, I know the plugs were criminally past their best, see the pics, but would the split ducting have had an impact too? It is split in a way that it was closed up by it's position, not gaping open.
Still, a lesson learned. Look after your engine. End of.
I might pull the temporary tape off the ducting and see if it makes it perform poorly again. If it doesn't, I'll still replace it, and I'll know it was the plugs and filter all the same.
