I am moving house on saturday and for the last year I have had a 156 2.5 V6 sat on my drive gathering dust. Since my GTV is now due its belts I thought I would take the brand new aux belt and tensioner off the 156 and swap it to the GTV (saving £100 off my full cambelt change).
Since I hardly do any miles in the GTV I thought I would get the car to my new place (10 miles) away and park it up for a month before cracking on with the job myself, as I can't afford to move and change the cambelt at the same time.
Swapped the parts over and started up the GTV to check all was ok, I noticed a rhythmic rubbing noise coming from the belts. Initially I thought I had put the aux belt on slightly out of whack. It turns out the noise is coming from the fixed idler in between the heads. The noise seemed to dissapear when the engine was up to temperature.
I really cannot find the money this month to change the belts, is there any chance it would hang on for the 30 minute ride to the new place? Otherwise I am really not sure what to do.
